Brith Sholom records, 1902-1988 and undated.

Primarily comprised of records of the Grand Lodge. There are historical documents from its founding as well as documentation of its operation through more than eighty years. The documents include Executive Board minutes, minutes of annual conventions, convention memorabilia, and magazines and newsletters published by the Grand Lodge. There are also some records of individual lodges and auxiliaries. Series I. Grand Lodge, 1902-1988 and undated contains the history of the early days of the Grand Lodge. While little documentation of these early years exists, there are copies of the original 1902 charter and some documents from the first five years of the group's existence. Of particular interest is a discussion of the provision of medical services to members as an inducement to join the organization, and reference to contributions in 1906 for the "California sufferers", presumably a reference to the California earthquake victims. There is also a 1918 election ballot in English and Yiddish. Additionally, the series contains copies of the organization's constitution and by-laws, beginning with the 1926 revised edition, and a ritual manual from 1926. The most extensive documentation of the organization's activities is for the 1930s through the 1980s. For these years there are meeting minutes, documentation of annual convention proceedings, bound versions of the Grand Master's Annual Message and Financial Statement, and issues of Brith Sholom's monthly magazine and newsletters. Series II. Constitutent Lodges and Auxiliaries, 1922-1987 and undated. A small portion of the collection deals with individual lodges and auxiliaries. There is a scrapbook with clippings about the Samuel N. Friedel Auxiliary, dating from 1 July 1974 to 29 Apr. 1987. There is also some material from the Friendship Lodge, the George Washington Lodge and the Dr. Herzl Lodge and Auxiliary. Series III. Miscellaneous Material, 1922-1972. There are two folders with material unrelated to either the Grand Lodge or any constitutent organization. One is a 1922 program for a ball given by the Tifereth Zion Organization. The second is a 1972 article by Harry Golden about Thomas Kennedy, the author of the "Jew Bill".

The Independent Order Brith Sholom of Baltimore, a fraternal organization, was formed in 1902 in East Baltimore by a group headed by Calman Cohn. Initially, its primary purpose was to assist new Jewish immigrants with jobs, learning the language and customs, and finding friends. Three lodges were formed under the umbrella of the Grand Lodge.
